Freelance pricing

What Should I Charge for My First Client?

How to set a first-client price when you do not have a lot of prior experience.

Your first client price should be based on the same economics as any other freelance job: income target, expenses, taxes, billable hours, and uncertainty.

Beginners often undercharge because they price the work like a hobby instead of a business. That creates problems later when they try to raise prices.

A better approach is to calculate a real floor, then decide whether the first project gets an intentional introductory discount.

If you want the first client to turn into a repeat client, keep the scope clean and the deliverables clear.

The first project is not just about making money. It is also about learning how much the work really costs you.
