How consultants can set a price that covers advice, access, and follow-through.
Consulting is not just time spent talking. The client is also paying for judgment, preparation, synthesis, and the ability to move faster with fewer mistakes.
A consulting rate usually needs to be higher than a simple execution rate because the work includes expertise and decision support.
The cleanest way to price consulting is to start with your hourly floor, then add a premium for specialization, speed, or strategic value.
If the work includes repeated calls or ongoing availability, that belongs in the rate too. Access is a product, not a side effect.
A good consulting price should make the engagement feel serious on both sides.
